A Classic for GC
12 August 2012
Summary: Phantasy Star Online has been my favourite for a very long time. I find it to be one of the best I have ever played, even though it was still a new area in the video game market at the time and has many glitches. It's a classic from the GameCube era, definitely one I would recommend for RPG style game lovers. Also something to try if you've played Phantasy Star Universe, and all the versions following it.
Phantasy Star Online is now Offline but still fun!

Excerpt: This is a fun game, but it gets old after a while. And now that Nintendo has killed the online servers for Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2, this game is a lot more slow. I have been doing the Phantasy Star series since the good old Dreamcast days, so when this game came out for Gamecube, I was very excited. Episode 1 is the same as it was for DC, but the addition of episode 2 was very exciting.
Excerpt: To start off this game is made by sega for the Nintendo Gamecube. It remains to this day the gamecube's only online game. Storyline 6/10: Basically, a ship sent on a mission to populate another world has mysteriously crashed, but there is no evidence of life on the ship or on the planet. A second ship(with you on it) Is sent to populate the planet but first to send out hunters (e.g you) to solve the mystery of what happened on the planet.
Pros: Huge array of weapons, upgrades, customizations and Areas
Cons: Sometimes slightly annoying control over your character
Excerpt: Phantasy Star Online episode 3, is not an action/rpg like the other 2 episodes, it is a completely different game altogether. To begin with, for those of you that haven't yet played this, it is Phantasy Star Online.. C.A.R.D Revolution. The story line, is not that clear, but I'll interprit it the best way I can.
Pros: You can play it over a long time, as it's turn based .
Excerpt: When you play offline, theres only so far you can go.. In This RPG, you play as either a Hunter, Ranger or Force charecter subset, each subset has 4 different types of that charector e.g HUmar, FOmar, HUcast. sent to the planet ragol to search for the crew of Pioneer 1, who mysteriously vanished, mere moments after your ship, Pioneer 2, enters the systems.
Pros: Long Game Life
Cons: You Need A Modem, then it cost £5 . 99 per month to play online
Excerpt: Phantasy Star Online Eps 1 & 2 was one of the first games I bought for my Gamecube and I think it was the best purchase I have made. The game is addictive and lots of fun to play. The game is a roleplay you know you go around you collect items you kill monsters you gain experience. It's also a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game) because when you have the modem you can go join many other players out there on the Internet and go round in groups with your...
Excerpt: I played this for the first time on my Dreamcast back in...'98? I think it was '98, anyways, it was (and still is) great. Those beautiful, crisp graphics, the Background music score, the sound effects, customisable characters, The depth of the story lines (if you did the missions, that is), the fact that it was Phantasy star, and the fact that it was the first console to my knowledge to go online.
Pros: It's absorbing and involving
Cons: After a long time it can become repetitive . Really long time .
Excerpt: Phantasy Star Online is a beaufiful blend of RPG and action. You play as a character which you may name whatever you wish, along with forming their appearance yourself. You will also have the choice of 12 types of characters in 3 groups. 4 hunter types, two human and two android who are best suited to the first time player, 4 ranger types, also having 2 humans and two androids, best suited to intermediate players/long range fighters.
Pros: Up to 4 players off - line, and team up with any of millions of other players on - line !
Cons: You'll need to buy a modem seperately to get the full experience .
Summary: You've got to hand it to Sega, if it wasn't for them, Online console gaming wouldnt exist. And what a perfect introduction to the Gamecubes modem adventures than this gem, the remake of a classic RPG. 3 character classes, crafted for different styles of gameplay, each in turn with 4 separate characters with slightly different attributes. The offline mode is great. An original story line, beautiful enemy and background designs and an immpeccable soundtrack.
Excerpt: Finally you can now connect your Gamecube up to the internet and play with people all over world. Before X-box and PS2 as well. This is the first of hopefully many and it's great too. Phantasy Star Online is an RPG where you have to clear a planet of any nasty monsters so your people can arrive on the surface and colonise. One attempt has already failed so it really depends on you to suceed.
Pros: Gamecube online, great game anyway, real community feeling
Cons: EXPENSIVE ! , you need a lot of stuff to get the most out of it, graphics need a bit of smartening up
