Summary: I have a Game Cube. NHL 2004 is one of the best games on a current-gen console. EA Sports really did a great job with this game. The graphics are solid. The player faces are pretty good. Player models are outstanding and life-like. The ice shine with light reflections. The sound is good. You can here a player get crushed against the boards, or here a slapper get rocketed of a stick. The commentary is great with Jim Houston and Craig Simpson.
Summary: The graphics are great, as is the gameplay, but there are still too many "AI" goals that the goal keeper cant save, especially in overtime. On easy level the game plays well, but there is too much checking on higher levels and defense becomes a chore, rather than a strategy. The gameplay has also caught up with NHL 2k3, but NHL 2k series is still better, the commentary is also not as good as the NHL 2k games either.
