Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes

The Armchair Empire
11 March 2010
  • Conclusion: Now Metal Gear Solid is making its way onto the Gamecube, marking the first time in over 15 years that the Metal Gear franchise has appeared on a Nintendo console. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt as this foray onto the Cube is not a new chapter in the Metal Gear Solid saga, but a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid of the Playstation for the Gamecube.

  • Excerpt: Hideo Kojima’s name is synonymous with greatness and for a good reason considering he is the mastermind behind one of the most engaging, well thought out and enjoyable game franchises ever created: The Metal Gear series. The success of the series is well documented here in the States; the 1998 original Playstation release of Metal Gear Solid is hailed as one of the greatest action games ever made for the Playstation, spawning a VR missions addendum, a separate “files of...

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes Review

VideoGamer.com

  • Excerpt: Few game titles have the calibre of the original Metal Gear Solid. Widely regarded as the PlayStation's defining release, its tale of twins, traitors and terrorism has since set the benchmark for videogame storytelling and action adventuring. Yet that was all back in 1998. Children that were born then are now discovering gaming for themselves; a new generation is forming, and amidst the GTAs, Need For Speeds and Splinter Cells, the first - and greatest - 3D outing of...

  • Excerpt: Imagine this: a gun that fires bullets propelled not by gunfire, but by magnets. This gun would speed up the bullets so much that the bullets would shatter bones on impact, virtually making the bullets more painful than, say, Minority Report: Everybody Runs. Or a regularly fired bullet. Your choice. Anyway, now picture a nuclear missile launcher that could do the same thing, propelling the missile via magnets instead of by rockets.

  • Excerpt: Rarely does a game come along that is so finely crafted, so unbelievably well-made, that the masses cry out for a next-generation remake of that very same game just as much as they anxiously anticipate its sequel(s). Even rarer is the instance in which the remake is actually made; sequels are common in this industry, but completely glorified, from-the-ground-up next-gen remakes of classic games just don't happen as often as we would seemingly like.

  • Excerpt: Metal Gear Solid is a classic. When it first debuted many years ago on Sony’s PlayStation, it instantly set the standard for how a cinematic action game should look and play and to this day remains one of the most beloved titles of the 32-bit era. Of course, when Nintendo, Silicon Knights (of Eternal Darkness fame) and Konami announced a three-way collaboration to bring an updated version of this landmark game to the GameCube console, gamers around the world rejoiced;...
