Mario Golf

GamersHell.com
28 July 2004
  • Excerpt: Mario has done it all - from bouncing around on mushrooms heads to go-karting and everything in between. Is there no stopping the crazy Italian plumber? Now Mario and his friends star in 'Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour’. It seems that Mario needs a break from the rigors of saving the princess and has hit the links. The question is – 'do Mario and his buddies make for a fun golf game?

  • Excerpt: I was eager to play “Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour” when I recently purchased a GameCube. I’d only played the version for the N64 briefly before, but did enjoy the little time that I had spent with it. In the last two years, I’ve become a fairly big fan of golf games. I played a lot of “Tiger Woods” last year and spent a great deal of time with “Links” this year, so I wondered how the latest version of “Mario Golf” could stack up against the two big dogs of golf games.

  • Excerpt: In a world where 'gotta have it' games are being released in handfuls per month (and in barrels-full during 'the holiday season'), what would possess me to buy a game based on the oft-perceived 'most boring sport ever' with 'that kiddy-ass mascot' Mario in it?

  • Conclusion: In actuality, MG is a very fun game, particularly if you have some friends over. (And if you’re trying to get your wife/girlfriend interested in videogames, MG is a perfect candidate.) Besides the usual golf modes and options, MG includes Tournament, Doubles, Character Match (solo play against an AI opponent), Ring Shot, Club Slots, Coin Shoot, Match play, Skins Match, Near Pin, Speed Golf and Stroke Play.

  • Excerpt: One thing that can be said for Nintendo games with Mario in them: They are always, at the very least, very good. Such is the case with Mario Golf Toadstool Tour , which takes the chortling plumber and his pals out on the links.

Thunderbolt Games

  • Excerpt: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour doesn’t take itself seriously. Seeing as how last time I checked, Nintendo was still aiming for the fetal-to-crawling demographic, there’s no reason why it should. The first game it reminded me of was the excellent Hot Shots Golf on the original PlayStation. That was the first game I can recall that made a cartoon out of the sport and yet still succeeded in being a magnificent simulation of the real thing.

  • Summary: I would recommend this game to anyone who A) has a love for golf or B) likes Mario, or someone like myself who likes both. I recommend buying this game because it takes a while to beat, and you definitely pay for what you get.
