Excerpt: Throughout these past few years, the Nintendo Gamecube has been…forgotten. Having very few major release titles since roughly 2003, it has been second to Xbox’s graphically stunning FPS’s, and PS2’s line up of epic RPG’s. It makes me sad as a gamer to know that arguably video gaming’s greatest dynasty has been bested by a system that has been out a mere few years.
Excerpt: Much like how the unassuming young hero of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance eventually rises up to face incredible odds, so does this strategy role-playing game turn out to be a resounding success despite a plain-looking presentation. Those who've played the Fire Emblem games for the Game Boy Advance will find that, above all, Fire Emblem for the GameCube doesn't mess with the series' successful formula and signature touches.
Pros: Tried-and-true gameplay is a great blend of strategy and role-playing, Riveting, richly woven storyline will hook you and keep you immersed, Lengthy journey spans 30 hours or more--multiple difficulty settings, too, Beautiful soundtrack hits all the right notes
Cons: Unimpressive 3D graphics sacrifice some of the series' old charm, Plays it safe with the formula and presentation almost to a fault
Conclusion: The battle scenes look good though. Everything is smooth, and the attacks look great. Magic and Critical Hits look especially nice, but even a regular slash from a sword can be fun to watch. Characters show no sign of damage however, which is once again disappointing. For example, Ike always wears a cape, and no matter how much damage he gets, it always remains perfectly intact. Simple things like this really keep this game from being great graphically.
Summary: Maybe it's a good thing that Zelda was delayed, because Fire Emblem might have stolen Game of the Year from it.
Pros: No load times whatsoever, One of the most challenging FE titles to ever be released, Party EXP. It's a good thing.™, Selectable difficulty levels available immediately, Sensational score befitting the epic series
Cons: 3D graphics are not up to the 2D standard Intelligent Systems created on the Super Famicom and the GBA, Animations have taken a nose dive, KANJI DEAR GOD THE KANJI MY EYES MY BRAIN THE HORROR IT BURNS
