Excerpt: I?m not much of a fan of wrestling games. The greased-up fa?ade of the ?sport? allows for some basic masculine soap opera dramas, but ends up just being a way to have as much violence, sex, and pageantry on TV as possible. And that?s not even counting the pay-per-view shows, such as No Mercy, Summer Slam, and Judgment Day. In truth, the entire thing is just stupidity, and more and more of the general population is starting to agree as the ratings for the WWE drop.
Summary: Jam Vendetta invites you to the underground circuit of hardcore brawling. Get your props as you hook up with the urban local legends and battle for ultimate supremacy. Featuring an original storyline and more than 45 unique characters, Def Jam Vendetta by EA SPORTS BIG provides over 1,500 varying moves, including dozens of signature special moves and taunts. This is your chance to earn money, power, and respect.
Excerpt: Def Jam Vendetta was created by AKI Corporation, the developers that made the N64’s most successful wrestling games, such as WCW/nWo Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and WWF No Mercy. EA Sports Big hopes to utilize AKI’s incredible wrestling game engine to make Def Jam Vendetta a success.
Conclusion: Graphically, DJV has a persona all its own. It took a couple of matches to get used to the style since there’s a tendency for wrestling games to look more realistic, not less. But the cartoony sensibility can’t mask the hardcore wrestler underneath. However, sometimes your movements will be masked, as the camera doesn’t adjust at all during tag team matches. If you can’t see what you’re doing, the action degenerates into hopeful buttons presses.
Excerpt: Back in the days of the Nintendo 64, AKI was renowned for its offerings in the wrestling game market. Starting out with Virtual Pro Wrestling, an import title that featured a host of Japanese wrestlers and a simple but highly enjoyable game engine, AKI eventually became the preferred developer among many wrestling fans, creating such popular American titles as WCW vs. NWO Revenge and WWF No Mercy.
