Baten Kaitos Origins (GC)

4 July 2013
  • Excerpt: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean was released in 2004 to a decided lack of critical consensus, with media outlets giving the game a wide variety of grades. Supporters of the game argued that the card-based mechanic provided a 9refreshing change of pace from the turn-based menu grind. Supporters also noted the game\'s strong pedigree, fantastic music score, and the absence of pesky random battles.

  • Excerpt: Released in Japan as "Baten Kaitos II: The First Wings and the Heirs of God," Baten Kaitos Origins is a prequel that takes place twenty years before the original Baten Kaitos. A proper analysis of this game requires a third eye in the back of one's head, always comparing the game to its predecessor. Unfortunately, I didn't play the original Baten Kaitos to completion.

Baten Kaitos Origins Review

GameSpot
10 October 2006
  • Summary: Baten Kaitos Origins' complex card-battle system and punishing foes weigh the game down, but it's a worthy adventure for role-playing fans who relish a challenge.
  • Pros: Satisfying storyline that explores the origins of the Baten Kaitos world, engaging card battles test your wits and skills, good breadth of content
  • Cons: Brutal boss fights with lots of level-grinding required, level design encourages backtracking and introduces confusion into some puzzles, lots of deck micromanagement required

Baten Kaitos II: Hajimari no Tsubasa to Kamigami no Shishi

Nintendo World Report
2 April 2006
  • Summary: Does MonolithSoft deliver another hit extending the GameCube's life, or is it a quick cash-in during the system's dying days?
  • Pros: Fans of the original will find themselves enraptured by the links between both games, Flashy battle system is still very fun, Motoi Sakuraba once again manages to delight and amaze gamers' ears
  • Cons: Battle system has been completely overhauled and simplified, much to the dismay of fans of the original, Shares quite a few areas from the first title that have not been changed in any significant fashion, Some models and animations can look extremely dated by today's standards

Baten Kaitos Origins

Game-Focus
2 March 2014

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (2005),
