Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3

Portable Review
23 October 2005
  • Excerpt: I have to admit, ever since the first Super Mario Advance game was released, I was waiting for a re-release of the classic Super Mario Bros. 3. However, as the second and third Mario Advance games were released, my hopes for a GBA version of SMB3 sank. However, in 2003, Nintendo surprised me with the announcement of Super Mario Advance 4, and trust me, it's never looked this good.

  • Excerpt: In case you have not played the original, here's the pulse: Bowser and his seven Koopa Kids have stolen seven magic wands from each country in the Mushroom World and used them to turn the kings into animals. As Mario Mario or Luigi Mario, your job is to hop and bop your way across each of the game's worlds in order to retrieve the wands and restore order.

Nintendo World Report
17 October 2003
  • Summary: On February 12th, 1990—two days before TYP’s sixth birthday—Super Mario Bros. 3 made its long-awaited North American debut. For its 2003 Bar Mitzvah celebration on the GBA, all I can say is, “Huzzah!
  • Pros: e-Reader Cards with new and remixed levels, Rumble support using Game Boy Player, Superb platform gameplay and level design, Support for 2-players alternating!
  • Cons: Game + 2nd GBA + e-Reader + cards = new levels - $, Mario & Luigi voices more annoying than ever, “Just what I needed.”, Where’s the classic SMB3 battle mode?, Where’s the original ending credits music?
