A storyline in a single-player board game? Doesn't sound like Mario Party to me, and it's not, in the classic sense at least. But dialogue and those Nintendo mini-games you've come to love make it worth playing anyway. Read more

    • Witty dialogue; entertaining in both short bursts and longer spurts; some awesome mini-games.
    • Some really pathetic mini-games; variation in difficulty can be annoying; multi-player.

Is Mario Party Advance state of the art? No, it is not because some mini-games are stupid and/or dull (which is inevitable because of the amount) and the multiplayer part is, despite some efforts, not that of a party-animal. The sound and graphics do not really push the GBA to its extreme but there are games that do a lot worse, believe me. The single-player on the other hand, is elaborated quite well so if that is what you demand, you might want to buy it. Read more

    • good integration of mini-games, decent addictive factor for single player, Mario license is not abused
    • some mini-games suck, multiplayer has worst concept since "collection-of-scenes" porn movies

"Squeezing the fun out of Mario Party Advance is a tough slog..." The most surprising aspect of Mario Party Advance (MPA) is that it has taken until now – six years after the N64 original – to appear on the GameBoy Advance. Connectivity was a big selling point of the GBA and the Mario Party franchise seems like a natural for being “connected.” Anyway, it’s here now and if you’re a fan, MPA is a welcome addition – but if you’re neutral on the franchise,... • - Some good mini-games, - Lots of multiplayer options
    • - Single-player game is yawn-inducing, - Uninteresting game boards, - Extremely limited number of available rolls

If this was the only way to make a handheld version on GBA, then it was a mistake from the beginning. Read more

    • Some mini-games are fun; large cast of recognizable characters.
    • Stale gameplay; poor graphics and animation; pathetic multiplayer component; unimpressive sound.

Taking Mario Party on the go is a great idea, it just wasn't implemented in the best fashion possible this time around. Hopefully Nintendo and Hudson Soft will give it another go in the future with more features and better pacing. There are a few smiles to be had during play however. Read more

Though Mario Party games on GameCube are ultimately shallow, superfluous and powered exclusively by fluff, the formula works exceedingly well on Game Boy Advance. Read more

All told, Mario Party Advance is quite different from the Mario Party games we're familiar with on the N64 and GameCube. The majority of the minigames and play modes included with the GBA game are geared toward single-player play. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that Mario Party Advance isn't much of a party when multiple players are involved. Read more

    • Hundreds of minigames, Story mode offers unique method of unlockables, Hilarious integration of Mario characters and settings.
    • Not enough multiplayer games or modes, Taking turns during multiplay is counterintuitive, Graphics and audio are rather plain.

The Mario Party series has a solid history of delivering competent to wildly imaginative fun in its six-year lifespan. The quasi board game on screen tends to get even the most critical of gamers to play. At long last, Game Boy Advance owners now get a version of the popular series to pocket. Read more

While we all sit patiently for Marioâ??s next true console title or perhaps the joys of New Super Mario Bros on the DS, it seems that Nintendo are happy to pimp (for want of a better word) the moustachioed one out in virtually every genre known to man, presumably to ensure weâ??ve not forgotten the dungaree-duo when the Revolution finally lands â?“ case in question, Super Mario Strikers, Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix and Mario Baseball to mention but a few.
