Juka and the Monophonic Menace

GameSpot
14 February 2007
  • Excerpt: If you've played through a role-playing game before, you may be too skilled to fully appreciate Juka and the Monophonic Menace. Even though Orbital Media's take on the genre is aesthetically pleasing and contains a couple of interesting gameplay ideas that might appeal to experienced players, the game is clearly intended for a less-experienced audience.
  • Pros: Good introduction for anyone new to role-playing games, innovative attack and potion-making procedures, lively world filled with charming structures and characters
  • Cons: Battles and puzzles pose no challenge, potion making takes up too much time, few opportunities to cut loose with Juka's abilities, characters are constantly telling you what to do, linear story doesn't leave much room for exploration

  • Conclusion: With its unique game play and memorable characters, Juka and the Monophonic Menace is just interesting enough for me to recommend. It won't make you want to give up on the Zelda series, but it is a solid reason to dust off your GBA and give it some love!

It won't make you want to give up on the Zelda series, but it is a solid reason to dust off your GBA and give it some love! Tweet This product was submitted by the publisher for review. As a rule, Defunct Games does not review games we spent money on. However, that does not always apply to classic/retro games.
