Son of a... Sandworm?

RPGamer
1 March 2010
  • Excerpt: When they decided to release Final Fantasy VI in North America, executives at Squaresoft felt like it would be too confusing to account for all of the games that didn't make it out of Japan, and consequently called the series' next installment Final Fantasy III . Unfortunately, they didn't foresee the inevitable confusion that would occur once non-Japanese gamers started hearing about the games in between what they knew as numbers II and III.

Expert Review

  • Excerpt: Nintendo has been touting the latest port of Final Fantasy VI (for their GBA handheld) as the "definitive Final Fantasy experience." Many a petty flame war has started since the invention of the Internet and message boards over just this topic. Generally, when arguing over a "best" Final Fantasy, top contenders include VI, which ended the Nintendo era, and VII, which began the Sony era.

Final Fantasy VI Advance

GamePro.com
6 March 2007
  • Excerpt: Let's go back in time to a simpler era, where games were limited to 16-bits and gamers had to use their imaginations to augment the graphical details, or lack thereof. This was the world Final Fantasy VI was born into (originally titled Final Fantasy III when it was first released in America in 1994) as it took the RPG world by storm.

Final Fantasy VI Advance

Portable Review
13 February 2007
  • Excerpt: Final Fantasy VI, or III as it was known in America, first hit the states back in 1994. It was the end of an area of the FF series in two ways, serving as both the last of the 2D Final Fantasies in the official number series, as well as the last of the series to appear on a Nintendo cartridge. Square parted ways with Nintendo a few years later, and the Final Fantasy series was never the same again.

Final Fantasy VI Advance

Project COE
5 February 2007
  • Conclusion: Square-Enix has also squashed some bugs that were found in the older games, put in some new spells, and added in four new espers that you can get (Gilgamish, Gigantuar, Leviathan, and Diablos). On top of all that, there are two new dungeons that can be played. Dragon’s Den is a new three-party dungeon that is extremely long and requires seriously buffed up players to beat it.
