Back to Stone

Just RPG
16 July 2007
  • Excerpt: Back to Stone on the Game Boy Advance is, above all else, a good surprise for the fans of the action genre, with a little RPG spice thrown in for good measure. There are several technical achievements in the game, pushing the Game Boy to output some beautiful graphics in a great frame rate. Unfortunately, there are also several flaws that hinder the software reaching a true AAA title quality.

Expert Review

  • Conclusion: Back to Stone is an honest try at a puzzle/actioner hybrid, but its technical limitations mire it in the past. Sketchy graphics, frustrating controls and an archaic password save system kept the game from being immersive enough. Still, the story and gameplay were solid, and there is definitely room for a sequel.

Back to Stone Review

28 February 2007
  • Summary: Back to Stone is a bland, sloppy dungeon crawl in which you'll spend the majority of time pushing stone blocks around.
  • Pros: Plenty of block-based puzzles, if you like that sort of thing, Music is haunting and elaborate
  • Cons: Combat is too simple and many enemies just ignore you, Entire focus of the game is on pushing blocks around, Graphics are heavily stretched to fill the system's screen, Jotting down a password every 60 seconds is a pain

Thunderbolt Games
2 February 2007
  • Excerpt: As you wake up, waves of dread and sickness overwhelm you. After spewing up some bile and blood, you try to stagger to your feet, only to stumble backwards onto the stony wall of your cell. Trying to get your bearings is pointless; the room was designed to prevent any light from seeping in. You don’t know what time or day it is. You don’t know how long it’s been since you were thrown into this stinking hellhole.

Back to Stone GBA Review

13 February 2007
  • Excerpt: wLwsPLwkTB? vRUQQPUs9T? 6xCyfwCP4n? Nah, contrary to what you may think, I’m not just typing nonsense – these are passwords. PASSWORDS, remember them? Y’know, those things from the times before battery back-up and other more convenient saving methods existed. They became a relic of a time gone by, an archaic method of recording one’s progress, when the art of writing down a 32-digit code differing slightly depending on your remaining ammo, health, how many enemies you’ve...
