It was released for retail on December 3, 1994 in Japan; September 9, 1995 in North America; September 29, 1995 in Europe; and November 1995 in Australia.
The PlayStation is built with MIPS R3000A-compatible (R3051) 32bit RISC chip running at 33.8688 MHz as its CPU. As for graphic performance, it is built separately from the CPU and enables to handle 2D graphics as well as 3D polygons that features maximum of 16.7 million colours (24-bit colour depth) and resolutions from 256 × 224 to 640 × 480. Meanwhile, its sound processing unit is capable to handle ADPCM sources with up to 24 channels and up to 44.1 kHz sampling rate. There are multiple variants produced by Sony which started the released of S-Video port, reducing numbers of ports from 4 to 1 and the CD controller went from 3 chips to 1. In addition, Son has also installed a mod chip that allows PlayStation capabilities to be expanded and allows several options. This allows players to play games from other regions, such as PAL titles on a NTSC console, or allowed the ability to play copies of original games without restriction. It also allows games to be played on a regular CD-R. The PSone was launched later on July 7, 2000 which is smaller than the original PlayStation (dimensions being 38 mm × 193 mm × 144 mm versus 45 mm × 260 mm × 185 mm), provides the home menu’s Graphical User Interface and adds protection against the mod chip by changing the internal layout and making previous-generation mod chip devices unusable.

You might be wondering just why it's worth someone reviewing the original PlayStation (known nowadays by the moniker "PS1") so many years after its release, and why anyone could possibly want to buy one when the technology is obsolete now. I will ... Read more
