If you have an original Playstation (some of its games are compatible with the Playstation 3 80 GB) or if you're changing platforms, you definitely want to give this unit a look. While lacking in some key features, it does provide a true HD gaming experience, the new controller is excellent and the Blu-ray disc player is just about thrown in for free. If you're coming from the PlayStation 2, you may have to think a little harder about this one. Read more
The bottom line: Even though PS2 backward compatibility has been dropped from this version, the 80GB PS3 is still a superb Blu-ray player and high-definition game console. Read more
Perttu's thoughts: I could have written so much more about this console. For example... Sony's vision, Home and Game 3.0? I don't want to market their promises about future content they should already be offering. Go watch Sony's GDC '07 keynote. I watched it at GameSpot, but you can find it elsewhere too. Stored media and CD playback functionality? Uh why bother when I already have the Xbox for that sort of thing? Really, only the modding community can deliver a truly... Read more
The second most requested product in Video Games and Consoles is Sony’s PS3 featuring IBM’s “Cell” processor and a co-developed Nvidia graphics processor that makes the system able to perform two trillion calculations per second. That’s approximately 320 times more calculations per second than the PS2. Along with the traditional AV and composite connections, it also boasts an HDMI port, which delivers uncompressed, unconverted digital picture and sound to... Read more
well i recently bought a ps3 due to the fact my xbox 360 after almost having it for a year kept having an overheating problem even though i never played it for more than an hour straight. i sent my 360 back to microsoft with my warranty to get it replaced but same problem happened so i decided to go to a local shop to get it fixed and sold it and got a ps3 instead. i decided after an hour at Best buy to get the regular fat ps3 160 gb instead of the 250gb slim because... Fun: I always thought the slim version was cool when I first bought it. Then I found out it plays AVI files through data disc so I can watch my shows through my PS3. That was the topping on the cake. Blu Ray, Games, AVI format, DVD the list goes on. Wireless built in and takes up barely any space. WOW! Read more
The Playstation 3 is an amazing console. It lets you chat with your friends, webcam chat, surf the web, play PS3 games online with your friends, download photos, listen to music, watch videos, DVD's and even Blu-ray Discs. You watch in Blu-Ray. Though the Playstation 3 sometimes makes noises after an hour of use and sounds like its over heating. And also for you to view and hear in Blu-ray, you MUST have the HDMI cables. and a TV compatible with the HDMI cables. Read more
I purchased a 40 gig Dec. 2007 for over $400. The DVD drive on this one also stopped workking suddently. SHAME ON SONY FOR THIS. I am hearing that many of these units are failing and of course, the warranty is no longer valid. I think they should do a recall and fix them for no cost since there seems to be such a huge problem with the same components on these going bad at about the same age range. If this was a cheap to purchase item of around $100 I could understand... Read more
I just got a ps3 when the price and games where better. I was a little disapointed that it still couldnt play ps2 games that were cheaper. The system and the games made up for it so I think it was a good use of $. Read more
