Sony grinds an inch off the waistline and $100 off the price tag of its revamped PS3. Nearly three years after the introduction of the original budget-busting PlayStation 3 , Sony has put both the system and its price tag on a diet. The appropriately named PlayStation 3 Slim shaves over an inch off the width of the previous system while keeping the same processing power intact. Read more

    • Reasonably priced; smaller form-factor; larger hard drive: cooler and quieter
    • HDMI cable not included; lacks Linux support; cheaper looking materials

The Sony PlayStation 3 Slim remains a top choice for anyone looking for a high-performance Blu-ray Disc player -- and a complete no-brainer for someone who is also interested in the PS3's prowess as a high-end video-gaming machine. Though the PlayStation 3 was once the fastest Blu-ray player around, many stand-alone Blu-ray players now load discs faster than Sony's console. Read more

This cheaper iteration of the next-generation Playstation is attractive for those who have been waiting for a good enough price reduction to warrant an upgrade from their old PS2. With blu-ray movie playback now finally gaining traction following the end of the format wars with HD-DVD, buying a Sony Playstation 3 120GB could mean you save on getting a blu-ray player, while gaining the added benefit of High Def gaming. In November 2009, Sony had introduced Netflix to its PlayStation 3. The Netflix subscribers can order free PS3 Netflix Blu-ray Disc at its Web site. They have to use that disc always to stream a movie. Now, the company has launched Sony PlayStation 3 Slim for overtaking the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. If you are a big fan of Sony PlayStation 3 and waiting for its price to come down up, then be ready to buy $299 priced 120GB Slim PS3. Read more

The PS3 is a great system, but not as good as xbox. People can hate on xbox and act like ps3 fanboys all they want, but they just don't know the truth. Even though the ps3 has better graphics capabilities, all games that are on both xbox and ps3 are developed for the xbox and then ported to ps3, which decreases the quality. The xbox's chipset is just less complicated so all developers turn to it over the ps3's chipset. Read more

This product if iffy. I mean, I lost two (2) of the old-style PS3s to YLOD. But right now, there haven't been many (if any confirmed) reports of YLOD in the slim models. Pretty much every review complains about the noise, but I've found mine easily fixable at the moment. I can feel the heat moving towards the back due to the fans (and away from the CPU & GPU), so it does create airflow. I just don't know if it's really that necessary. Read more

I can't do system downloads or updates via the wifi in the system even though I have excellent internet and wifi in my house. The online is free, I used to have an xbox 360 I sold it and bought this and I regret it I liked the xbox's ease of use, game play, chat, and games a lot beter to me it is worth paying for online to get an xbox 360 rather then the... I've had my PS3 for about 2 years now, well, pretty much exactly 2 years, And I've played about 200 games on it, so I know lots about it. It's a very reliable system that has never overheated on me, and will rarely freeze. It has a Blu Ray player which is very useful compared to the Xbox 360, which doesn't. It can run off HDMI, AV cables and Component cables. So it's also very versatile and will go in any TV you own, even though it is better to have a 1080p/720p HD TV. Read more

I had a choice of buying an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3. As soon as I found out the Playstation 3 was FREE TO PLAY ONLINE, i was sucked in. I purchased the original "Fat" PS3 about 6 months after release. Unfortunately after a good amount of time it broke (the yellow light.) It was partly my fault because I let it overheat. Nevertheless i was angry and still wanted another PS3. I picked up the PS3 slim and never even considered buying an Xbox 360. Read more
