Features

Sega Saturn’s CPU is built with two Hitachi SuperH-2 7604 32-Bit RISC processors at 28.63 MHz (50-MIPS) which each has 4 KB on-chip cache, of which 2 KB can alternatively be used as directly addressable Scratchpad RAM. In terms of memory, it consists of 1 MB SDRAM, 1 MB DRAM, 1.5 MB VRAM, 4 KB VDP2 on-chip colour RAM, 512 KB audio RAM, 512 KB CD-ROM cache, 32 KB non-volatile RAM (battery backup) and 512 KB BIOS ROM. Audio production generated by Saturn Custom Sound Processor. Meanwhile video generated by VDP1 32-bit video display processor and VDP2 32-bit background and scroll plane video display processor. There are various model versions developed including Sega HST-3200 which is grey colour, Sega which is white colour, Sega Skeleton Saturn which is translucent smokey-grey, Sega Derby Saturn which is translucent blue, Hitachi Hi-Saturn which is charcoal colour, Hitachi Hi-Saturn Navi (MMP-1000NV), JVC/Victor V-Saturn RG-JX1, JVC/Victor V-Saturn RG-JX2 and Samsung Saturn for Asian market; and MK-80000, MK-80000A and MK-80001 for North America market. Among accessories developed to be used with including DirectLink (also known as Link Cable) which enables two consoles to be connected for multiplayer game play, Arcade Racer which is a steering wheel type of joystick, and storage cards which makes it capable to store game information. It measures 260 mm (10.2 in) x 230 mm (9.0 in) x 83 mm (3.2 in) in dimensions.
