Excerpt: The reason I'm giving it such low stars is because my husband bought this for both my boys for their birthday. They were so excited to hook it up and play. To our disappointment it didn't work! It wouldn't even do the set up instructions. it just keep saying error. They box had no damage, so we called Nintendo. They said we would need to send back for repairs!!! My husband said we just purchased it and brought it home, what do you mean send it back.
Summary: I received my Wii U and proceeded to immediately plug it in and start playing, after a while I decided to update it to access the Nintendo store where I reached the first issue with this console. There are 2 Xbox 360 systems, a PS3 and 4 computers in my home, they work perfectly with my router, the Nintendo Wii U on the other hand had a spotty connection and would fail to download the update.
Summary: There are a lot of places you can learn about the Wii U. So in the beginning of my review I'm going to talk about whether you want the regular or the deluxe. And I'm here to tell you: maybe you don't have to buy the deluxe. I've checked it out and here is the deal. The Deluxe gives you: 1) 24 GB more memory than a basic. Of course, you can add a cheap USB drive and duplicate this.
Summary: Great News. Today (4/30/2013) Nintendo released an update that resolved a lot of the problems that the Wii U had. My personal favorite is that you can now download and install games in the background and fully automatically. Yes, it should have been like that since the beginning. Three cheers! I've updated my review to reflect this new information.
Excerpt: The Wii U sports a new tablet-like controller that allows developers to come up with all new ways to control your games. Unfortunately, developers don't seem to know what to do with it and only Nintendo themselves publish games that really take advantage of the controller in unique ways. The console suffers from lack of third party support like its predecessor.
Summary: Placed the Wii U in the same location as the older Wii and had a difficult time keeping a sufficient signal for internet connection. Finally after time with tech support, had to relocate. Disappointed in the games available.
Summary: The wii u has been so much fun so far. Way better graphics than the original wii. The ideas and concept the wii u has are great now game developers just need to use them. The other down side would be lack of games in general. Most games are mini game/party games.
Summary: Nice upgrade from the Wii. New Super Mario Bros. is fun. Once Sony and Microsoft release their new systems, the Wii U will probably suffer the same fate as the Dreamcast. I think Nintendo hasn't had a great console since the SNES while Sony and M$ keep improving with each new system. If the Wii and its first-party games didn't interest you then the Wii U isn't for you. I think Wii U purchasers will know who they are.
Pros: Gamepad mirrors TV display
Cons: Feels like a rushed product. Lacking Nintendo's usual polish.
