Eh...

Christopher G., Newegg
26 March 2009
  • Pros: - Good button layout - Comfortable for long gaming - Once you figure it out the software is great
  • Cons: Can be a little confusing. Install says you can use the pad without installing the programming software, but i couldn't get it to work. Maybe someone else did?

Decent controller

Anonymous, Newegg
5 March 2009
  • Summary: Despite the manufacturing problem with the joystick, I can't get myself comfortable with any other game pad. I used the nostromo for about a year before I switched to this. Took a little bit to get used to, and now I'm hooked. The nostromo just doesn't have enough keys for my needs.
  • Pros: Has plenty of keys for any game I want to play. Easy to use software.
  • Cons: I've gone through 2 of these now, currently on my third. The joystick gets worn out after 4-5 months of use. Even though it is centered, it will constantly be keying itself to the right. I've read many complaints about this happening to other users as well.

Almost a great gamepad

Benedict J., Newegg
16 January 2009
  • Summary: The unit is light and prone to slide. It needs a way to secure it to a desk. When configured as a plain joystick (not using the included software) I've found TF2 has bugs when binding to "JOYn". The bindings don't always work even when they work bound to keyboard keys or mouse buttons.
  • Pros: Possible to install without any special software. Shows up as a 24 button, one joystick HID input device. The 3-position mode switch is like 3 buttons, one of which is always held down (buttons 22-24). The switch position controls the backlight cover. It meets my goal of freeing up space for mous...
  • Cons: Keys are fairly stiff and more fatiguing than my real keyboard. The buttons substituting for the spacebar are not keys but "joystick buttons" and they are not as reliable if you push them at a slight angle. The thumb controls are adjustable but feel too far away even for my large hands. I can't r...

Sticky keys

Danielle O., Newegg
3 December 2008
  • Summary: Not happy with the product, wish i could send it back to be honest. Going to try the Nostromo see if that makes me change my mind about Game pads. Using a logitech G15 keyboard now.
  • Pros: Bought this as my first GamePad and i like the idea. Like the joystick and the thumb keys, the variety to choose 3 profiles with just a switch is quite nice too.
  • Cons: Ive tried using this pad with AoC, WoW, War and some fps. My main problem is how you can't spam a button. It will stick. Sometimes im running foward i turn left and my character starts to run in circles, the button manually doesnt look like its stuck but it is. The programming was a difficult tas...

Saitek PZ31A Pro Gamer Command Pad

TheGundamFreak, Rate it all!
2 October 2008
  • Summary: I purchased this pad as an upgrade for my Nostromo N52 (which I still love to this day) because of the four additional buttons and the Shiftstate (two really great features). While this has helped greatly in many games, since I have more buttons at my disposal, my wrist has been telling me...

I like a lot, but...

Jason L., Newegg
22 September 2008
  • Summary: I actually haven't owned this particular device - I've owned 2 "Saitek Cyborg Command Pad"s, which have the same model number (PZ31A). The only difference I can discern in the 2 products is the color of the keys & light glow.
  • Pros: Lots & lots of buttons, versatile programmability. I find the layout of the number keys and F1-F4 very useful; the vertical side keys not as much, but I still use them on occasion. I'm about to buy a 3rd device, despite the problems listed below.
  • Cons: 1) I use the thumb joystick for controlling direction. Two devices in a row, after a while of solid performing, the thumb button now "detects" me pressing to the right (which I'm not doing!) at random, unpredictable times. It's both annoying, and for those games where at times you need to stand s...

User Review

Eric B., Newegg
31 August 2008
  • Summary: I chose this unit over a few others based primarily on the adjustability described in the feedback from other customers. However, I'm getting the feeling that Newegg is engaging in bait and switch tactics since the product they ship is of lower quality than what is advertised -- you're breaking the...
  • Pros: It works with Vista 64. Powerfull programability. I was pleasently surprized to find out that the hat switch is analog and not just a simple 4 position switch. Inexpensive.
  • Cons: Cheap construction. What I recieved was different from what is advertised. I got a "Saitek Cyborg Command Unit" which is very much like the pro gamer pictured except that it is entirely plastic and cast from a rigid plastic mold. The thumb control area is not adjustable as advertised; it rotates ...

Good, But....

AnDroo N., Newegg
15 August 2008
  • Summary: I replaced my n52 for more buttons and lost it in the process somehow. If I had to choose between the two, I'd say the Saitek is more responsive, and more comfortable, but the n52 is more thought out.
  • Pros: The controller is really versatile, I use it for a lot of things, mostly MMO's While the software looks kinda bare, once you get use to the quirks the no nonsense approach is really actually welcome after a while. I like fluffy and pretty interfaces liek anyone, but in some cases it's too much. N...
  • Cons: Buttons stopped working. No Default loadout for the pad, have to select the profile every time you boot up. Saitek Website is down like 75% of the time... Too many buttons! I am all for buttons, and technically this isn't a detriment, but I found I didn't use some because a lot were too far away....

Pretty Good

Anonymous, Newegg
13 May 2007
  • Pros: Easy to use, just likes its predecessor Nostramo n52. n52 is better
  • Cons: Doesnt fit to hand as well as the Nostromo n52. If you are considering a device like this i recomend the n52. I own one. the saitek is good an all but not as good as the n52.. trying to think of sumthin else 2 say... when i got the n52 i wasnt sure about it but after about 2 days of constant use ...
