Summary: I have had this or similar side by side for 3 years and in that time, the ice maker door access has stopped working requiring a plastic grocery bag to be stuffed in there to keep the freezer air from escaping, and the shelving on the inside of this machine is deplorable....
Summary: After 10 months owning this fridge, we have consistently had issues with the icemaker. I learned that for crushed ice, you have to push your cup all the way back into the chute opener to avoid it spraying all over the kitchen.

Decent overall fridge for the price but beware of ice dispenser issues
3 April 2015
Summary: I've had this fridge for a year now. I've also read some other reviews and agree with some points and not others. Here goes... The one major issue for me is the ice dispenser. Others cited it's messy and seems to easily spill ice.
Summary: Cheap. Ice shoots all over floor when used. Temperature does not stay constant and a lot of time it is 45-47 degrees. Drawers are hard to close completely and if not completely seated, the drawer cracks.
Summary: I bought this refrigerator 6 months ago. Besides the ice shooting out all over the place, (not good when kids like to use it) everything freezes in the freezer except the ice cream. It's too soft. Also, there is a horrid smell inside. I'm not sure where it came from.
Excerpt: I wish we hadn't gotten this frig. The price was good, but once I got it reloaded with items from our old frig, I realized the design was such that I had to delete condiments, etc. Leftovers are a problem to store. Price, energy efficiency and fade-in lights are all good.
Summary: Poor quality fridge. Bought it a year ago from Costco. Ice maker sprays ice fragments everywhere. Repair guy looked and said it's simply poor design. I'm disappointed by the poor engineering. Whirlpool basically released a subpar product to the market.
