Compressor failed at 14 months

holden987, shop your way
3 May 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this product in November 2012 based on the Consumer Reports recommended review of this model. The fridge worked great for 14 months... zero complaints other than the ice maker plastic shield would occasionally get stuck in the rotor that kicks out the ice cubes from the freeze tray. It was quiet and extremely energy-efficient. Then in January 2014 (two months out of warranty), I noticed the fridge was constantly running and sounded louder than normal.

savvysaver84, Amazon
26 February 2014
  • Summary: bought this fridge 18 months ago, recently it started to create a sheet of ice followed by a gunk of ice on the coils followed by a faulty starter which whirlpool knows about and makes it nearly impossible to find the part. horrible experience spent lots of money on spoiled food and having to dine out my family of 4. too bad I've invested over $2000 on the fridge and the matching stove, what a disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POOR QUALITY!! BUYER BEWARE

l_mach, brandsmartusa.com
10 January 2014
  • Excerpt: We purchased this product 3 years ago expecting a reliable product. Today, we just paid a repair company a substantial amount to replace a control board ("out of warranty") as the fresh food section stopped cooling while away during the holidays. My family threw away HUNDREDS of dollars in food due to spoilage, not to mention the local service company Whirlpool sent took over a week to finish the repair.

Don't buy this.

Shelley, Amazon
1 January 2014
  • Summary: A year and a half old, and like others, the freezer on the bottom works but every couple of months the top gets warm, to about 58 degrees. My husband is handy and after watching local appliance repairman defrost the ice on the evaporatior coils he can do it himself. That is, AFTER removing everything from the freezer (ok in very cold winter weather but not such fun in summer) and getting down and using the hairdryer on it. Lots of fun for both of us.

Broken after 1 month

Allison1987, brandsmartusa.com

  • Excerpt: We are so disappointed in this fridge/freezer. We purchased a new home and upgraded our fridge to this specific one, as we loved the size of the fridge compartment, and that the freezer was on the bottom, also I liked the idea of an icemaker. Well exactly a month after owning this fridge, I went to get an ice cube because my milk was oddly warm, and found that all the ice (as long as hamburger meat and frozen veggies) was in a melted puddle in the freezer!

New buyers beware!

GiGiBk, brandsmartusa.com
4 December 2013
  • Excerpt: This fridge with bottom freezer will start acting up after 2 years if not sooner. I loved it too but then freezer starts getting "snow" and fridge stops blowing cold air. I am on my 3rd year and it's going in the garbage. Keeps happening every 3 weeks!
  • Cons: Does not last

The energy-savings is most welcomed!

  • Excerpt: When we went shopping for a new refrigerator/freezer, we did not especially consider Whirlpool brand. But after seeing the particular model we ultimately purchased, we are so glad the salesperson recommended it. We have seen a remarkable reduction in our electric bill because of the energy-saving feature. We are very happy to be a Whirlpool customer. Thanks Whirlpool for a quality product!

Would never buy again

John2014, brandsmartusa.com
29 October 2013
  • Excerpt: We bought this refrigerator 2 years ago in August. It needed to have a computer board replaced the next august, right before the 1 year warrranty expired. Two weeks ago, I noticed a strange noise (a humming) coming form it and the next day, I noticed there seemed to be some of the food in the freezer part was frosting up. We called for service (fortunately we had just purchased a 3 year service contract) and they came out 4 days later to look at it.

The compressor went bad in 13 months

timjoy, brandsmartusa.com
16 October 2013
  • Excerpt: I am absolutely disgusted with the quality of this refrigerator. In only 13 months the compressor went out. Of course, one month after warranty and it will cost $700-$800 to replace, with replacement parts only having a 30 day warranty. I think Whirlpool needs to take a good look at their quality control and performance of their products. I loved this fridge but will never buy one again if it is not reliable greater than 13 months!
