Summary: The title says it all. The freezer shelves cannot hold any weight at all. If you open up my freezer it looks like total trailer trash. Nothing stays up. The automatic ice cube tray keeps jamming. The door alarm only works if the door is wide open. If the door is barely opened and not noticeable then the alarm will not make a sound. You end up with a huge mess! I can't forget to mention the filter needs to be changed every 3 weeks. Don't believe what the label says.
Summary: It's amazing the amount of people who are suffering from this issue. They should have a solution already to fix this. GE PLEASE LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BUYING YOUR PRODUCTS! Update as of September 2013: A contactor from GE came by to fix the issue and after spending a long time with the company engineers over the phone, they requested "new and improved" shelves for the freezer. They sent us a bunch of shelves but only one partially fits the freezer.
Summary: Auger in ice maker is plastic. We are on our second tray with auger in 12 months. Plastic auger starts breaking when you dispense ice and you end up with plastic in your ice dispensed, very dangerous if you don't see the plastic chips in your ice dispensed.
Summary: We bought an entire suite of GE appliances in 2006 based on the fact that I had a mixer made by GE that worked fine and was 40 years old. Terrible mistake. We had problems with all of them, the dishwasher rack began falling apart (rusting) it eventually quit working, and the repair technician indicated that we needed to pre-wash the dishes prior to putting them into the dish washer or he claimed that we would be calling him the following year, the door on the microwave...
Summary: Purchased a GE Side By Side Stainless Steel two years ago and all the metal parts in the freezer section are rusting. It was slight six months ago and is now very obvious where the shelves look dirty, but are in fact rusted. I was a life long GE customer and all my appliances are GE since the house remodel two years ago, including wall ovens, dishwashers and cook-top.
Summary: Two concerns which warranty service calls have not been able to correct are 1) the ice cubes in the automatic ice maker fuse together and won't dispense properly until you manually break them apart, and 2) there has been an intermittent vibration noise that is not related to the compressor running (according to the service technician who thinks it is probably internal tubing that is ratting again another component of the unit).
Summary: Love the unit but wish you would do something about that silver plastic tray at the bottom of the in door water dispenser. It gets stained with hard water and when you clean it it peels apart I've replaced mine several times already. It is frustrating that you spend so much money and something right out front in your face looks horrible. I have actually bought a spare and interchange the pieces when we have guests so as not to be embarrassed by the appearance.
