Summary: Purchased this about 2.5 years ago and 3 months ago, freezer was not cooling (temp stays at about 20 degrees when it should be at 0). This was when my nightmare began. The first issue was a broken fan which was replaced. Then it still wasn't working and the next service call, it was the compressor. Once that was fixed it worked for about 1.5 months and the same issue again. This time the GE technician said it was the pipes which was leaking freon.
Summary: Bought this model for our family size. Just right for the price. Got it at a large S. CA discount house. No problems in the two years we've owned it. I have to say, of all the quality 42" fridges on the market, this one has the best price. We researched all the major brands and this was virtually the only model at 42". All the others are 48" for outrageous prices, or at 36" which are so small for built ins.
Summary: We have had this refridgerator for just over a year. IWe experienced fan issues as soon as it was installed. Refridergerator doesn't keep cold. Finally the fan and main board were replaced. 6 months later same problem again! Just had the fan and board replaced again two days ago. It still has temp fluctuations from 37 degrees to 58 degrees. We need to constantly keep the venting hood open to try and keep it cool, Very disappointed.
Summary: Looks like we are having same problem as others with the freezer fan. We lost temp in our Freeze and took 2 days to notice since the temp display is no shown unless you press the button....but we noticed stuff thawing and sure enough freezer side is warming up. Fridge side is fine. Called GE, and service guy was out the next day - fast. Parts order and arrived in 4 days - repair man ordered Fan and the control board just in case. Suppose to be repaired this Friday.
Summary: I've owned mine for 5 years and it's been a total disaster. I've replaced the compressor twice; the first time was covered by the warranty. There a puddle in front of it every morning where it leaks so I had to drill a whole in the floor for it to drain! I've replaced the temperature sensors twice. One of the circulating fans failed. Now the freon system is blocked so the refrigerator side is not working at all. My repair man has given up and told me to junk it!
Summary: I remodeled my kitchen to help sell our home. I used all GE profile stainless appliances but the star was the 42" built-in refrigerator. It sold the house! We are building our new home and I am in the process of buying this refrigerator again!
Summary: I have owned my side by side refrigerator for about 12 years. In the beginning it was great but then problems with defrosting began. I have had it serviced several times. I think the probelm is the cooling fan and the defrost system does not work properly. Another problem isthe refrigterator and freezer doors do not close unless all food is set back far from front of the refrigerator or freezer.
Summary: I have a big family, hence the need for a big refrigerator. the only drawback it has is the ice maker cannot keep up with a family of 6. I leave it on "quick ice" all the time. Most of the time there is ice available, but not always.
Excellent features and aesthetics but inherent design flaws.

Summary: We love the features and looks of this refrigerator / freezer. Unfortunately, it appears that it has inherent design flaws. We are on our second unit now. Our first unit required an incredible number of service calls. We had three freezer evaporator fans and three main circuit boards replaced in that unit and we still had problems with the fans making intolerable noises.
