Summary: I have a love/hate relationship with this fragrance. At times it smells like Avons Imari Seduction with a dark dirty almost earthy note (might be the truffle) other times I get an almost fly spray quality from it. Other times I get a hint of some sort of melon (like the old New West) overlayed with vanilla and something that reminds me of brown paper - this is the time I do like it. Other times it makes me feel ill as it smells sweaty and cloying.
Summary: I can usually wear strong perfumes, actually they are the only ones that don't disappear in 60 sec. when I put them on. So I was looking forward to my new sample of Black Orchid. Initially it had a strong chocolate smell that became sweet and rather nice. After a half hour or so I,like a previous reviewer, smelled like a tree. It was a pleasant odor of warm newly cut cedar but maybe not what I had expected.
Summary: Having gone through three samples, I can't wear this anymore. The opening is AMAZING, like an earthy truffle with cocoa, leather, and liqueur. The drydown used to smell to me like a faintly sweet vanilla/sandalwood aroma, but now all I get is a weird chocolate cucumber smell. If only those opening notes had lasted longer, this would've been a winner.
Summary: Black Orchid by Tom Ford is quite possibly one of the most recognised niche fragrances on the market today. It took me so long to get around to trying it, but now that I've been there and done that, I am ever so slightly confused. I expected Black Orchid to be quite a dark smelling fragrance. So I was surprised to find a sweet, caramel based scent wafting up to greet my nose upon first application.
Summary: I've only ever tried a sample. I don't think I can ever wear this, but it is, nonetheless, a very intriguing scent. I just don't think it quite works on me. It is so powerful that it shocked my olfactory nerves. The first blast is so strong and unpleasant, overly strong spice, overly ripe fruit and blast of complex floral. Deep and dark. Massive sillage.
Summary: Perfume depends on personal taste the most I think. Therefore, writing a review about a perfume is kind of useless. But I will just let others know what I thought of it. I didn't like it. It smelled great at first. But the deep notes and the scent that stuck on my body was so annoying that I couldn't sleep all night (I guess it was the heavy sandalwood) and returned the perfume right away.
Summary: This one was a bit much for me. It is undoubtedly sexy, in a deep, sultry kind of way. When I smell Black Orchid I think of Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn. Women that were very strong yet feminine. The notes are blended well. Of course, the orchid is the most apparent note, but the leather and tobacco notes are quite noticeable. This is the signature scent of a good friend of mine. She dresses in a slightly masculine way and has a strong personality.
Summary: I'll start with the good things about this oriental fragrance first: It doesn't turn sharp on my skin the way so many fragrances do, and it lasts a long time. In fact, I could smell it on my wrist for a good 48 hours, even after a shower. However, that wasn't necessarily good, since I'm not overly fond of the fragrance. I'm not huge fan of orientals to begin with, and this one seems pretty generic to me.
