Is this what mainstream designer perfumery has come to?
17 December 2012
Summary: What is the point of even pretending that Givenchy is an independent perfume house when under the management of LVMH, the perfumer is one and the same as that of Christian Dior? Everything seems to be merging in a race to the bottom to a single and solitary layer of mediocrity. DAHLIA NOIR eau de toilette is a prime example. This is another "pink" fragrance among hundreds, about as trivial as they come. And what a waste of a name!
Summary: The new "Dahlia Noir Eau de Toilette" is a completely different fragrance than the Dahlia Eau de Parfum (which I prefer). While the Eau de Parfum is a pervasive mélange of rose and patchouli with great glamour and sillage, the Eau de Toilette is light-hearted with topnotes of peach and and lemon, fading into a soft whisper of rose on a light bed of conventional woody-ambers. "Dahlia Noir EdT" is not very thrilling, but quite suitable for a polite afternoon tea party.
Summary: I got a couple of samples of this because the notes sound luscious. The first few minutes had a bit of orange and a bit of powdery green mimosa, so I was expecting good things. However, at about 5 minutes, it dried down into something more like an inexpensive toiletry and stayed there. I would say that this smells like something in between Nivea Creme and baby wipes. Not an experience I'm eager to repeat.
Excerpt: My bottle of Dahlia Noir by Givenchy was a very thoughtful gift to me by my lovely husband. He’s bought me perfumes before and I always worry about him doing so, as he’s made a few horrible choices in the past, but this one was one of his better efforts, I have to say. I had tried this on my skin a few times beforehand when I’d been out shopping with him and tried it on my skin and on one of those little sticks and could never decide whether to splash out the £40 cost of...
Pros: Just the gorgeous smell, and it lasts for ages
Excerpt: Launched: 2012 Group: Floral INTRODUCTION I review fragrances as a hobby and recently won a bid on Ebay for a lot of fragrance samples including Dahlia Noir. Eau de Toilette from Givenchy, a follow up from last year's Eau de Parfum of the same name. THE PACKAGING I usually consider Givenchy fragrance packaging uninspired and plain bar a few exceptions; this is no different in the case of Dahlia Noir.
Pros: Nice and softly blended powdery rose and musk
