Summary: I wish I could give this a higher rating but this perfume doesn't last at all on me. Like KittyC I ended up with a faint sandalwood dry down which was nearly imperceptible. Initially, there is a wonderful blast of aldehydes-- very much like No. 5 which reveals a heart of lightly spiced sandalwood. The sandalwood is nice and has a creamy quality but also smells somewhat thin and synthetic.
Summary: Like many others, I thought this was going to blow my mind. Nope. Curiously flat on me, and I'm not getting woods or gingerbread or any of the other promised notes. It smells genteely oriental. Generic rich person.
Summary: The much touted Bois des Iles was too woody on me, plus verging on masculine that others have mentioned. Just not pretty and not much to recommend it on me. I do like #19, #5 in its many forms, #22, #31, Coco Mlle edp, Cristalle edt, Allure body cream, and a jot of Allure Sensuelle edp in the Chanel fragrance line.
Summary: How sad! Based on the reviews and blogs thought I would want gallons of this. Found instead that one scant spritz was PLENTY. Aldehydes galore, without the sparkling sexy mischeviousness of No. 5 Indeed, if I hadn't sprayed this myself at the Chanel boutique, I would swear someone was trying to pass off a bad No. 5 dupe. No go.
Summary: I don't understand why this is so "meh" on me when everyone else loves it so much. It smells dated and too sophisticated. It's a sophistication that doesn't interest me either, as does the sophistication of SL's Vetiver Oriental. There are supposed to be all these gorgeous notes going on--see Perfumes, The Guide. Unpleasant topnotes and then woods, just woods.
Summary: I wish this had stayed the way it started.. pretty and woodsy -- with enough sandalwood, ginger and flowers to to make it mysteriously feminine. It's lovely. But ---------- it dried down just like Chanel No 5 dries down on me to lovely powder. That's all. I can wear Johnson's Baby Powder and get the same result. Pity -- it was lovely at first.
Summary: Oh geez...I need to just face the fact that Chanel and I will never be friends. I went through hell to get my hands on a sample of the parfum, finally got it....and....I'm disappointed. Chanel, it's not you...it's me. Much too soapy and mature for me. It reminds of very rich old ladies *ducks and runs*.
Summary: I realize I will be in the minority, but I did not like anything about this fragrance. I have worn #5 and #19 and like the crispness of each. Maybe it is my body chemistry, but there was an overwhelming Musk smell from beginning to end. It was also too sweet and powdery. The drydown made me sick. I was so sad because I wanted to love this and tried several times to find some note in it that appealed to me. I could not.
