programs not running

hi,
i have a gateway c-140xl and some of the programs dont work, i click on them, and if needed, the permission screen pops up. i say yes, and it loads, then nothing happens. the three main programs that dont work, are avast antivirus, the computers decrypter, and ati cataylst control center.

You should check the task manager to see if the programs are really being executed...
(to open the task manager: Right click on the taskbar and select Task Manager, then go to the Processes tab)
If you are unable to launch the taskbar, then I would say you have some spyware/virus in your computer...
If you are able to launch the taskbar, check if the programs are running or if they just appear and disappear right away, if so, it would mean something is wrong with your OS (can be HW or SW)...
