My friend has this problem occur probably a week after running this video card Geforce 9800 GTX OC2, OC2 means that it was factory overclocked or something like that.
Screen freezes up when he was currently doing something (not even playing a game most of the time) and the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive, forcing him to do a hard restart. He bought a bigger harddrive shortly after these problems as well as a new PSU and I'm still having the problem, He popped in his old video card after the problem and it seems to run fine but now he get freezes not as frequently as the new card, but freezes that he didn't have before. Also to add that the card runs at around 60-64 degrees Celsius. His new PSU is 600 Watt with these and the new video card needs 475W(is that the problem?), the A's on the PSU are: +12V1= 13A +12V2= 18A +12V3= 16A +12V4= 8A Here is his system spec: Mainboard : Asus P5ND2-SLI Chipset : nVidia nForce4 SLI Intel Edition Processor : Intel Pentium 4 640 @ 3200 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX OC2 (old card 7800 GTX) Hard Disk : WDC (400 GB) CD-Rom Drive : LITE-ON CD-RW SOHR-5239V DVD-Rom Drive : LITE-ON DVD SOHD-16P9S Monitor Type : Acer AL1714 - 17 inches Network Card : Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 DirectX : Version 9.0c (May 2007) Any help would be appreciated as to what is wrong, He's just going insane right now trying to figure this out. Thanks again. |
