USB stands for “Universal Serial Bus”. It is popular within almost all devices such as cameras, card readers and cell phones for data transfer from or to pc.

Firewire is another cable used for transferring video files from motion picture cameras to your pc. It’s quite expensive since it uses Fiber.

VGA means “Video Graphics Array”. Most of the computers today have this in the motherboard. It is colored blue and has 15 pin holes on it. It allows you to see what you’re are doing on your computer through your monitor.

A Serial Cable allows you to transfer data and other things related to communications such as GPS.

Parallel Port was usually used for printers before the USB and Firewire.
most the things you asked were related to transferring data from one place to another.
