Default Tuner card and my dvr box

ok i hooked up my cable dvr box to my pc tuner card and got a lot of feed back, why ? should i just hook up the old box ??? also i have the cable hooked up and it works fine but i want the upper channels and thats why i need the box. help please. thank you.
