Default Buy a new HDTV or get a converter?

I still have my regular tv that works still fine for years now. What I know is that next year, you are supposed to stop getting free TV channels with a regular tv. Now I don't really want a new tv since mine still works fine but I know you have to have a converter to get the "free" tv HDTV switch. If I get the converter thing will I still get local "free channels", such as ABC, PBS, CBS, NBC and Fox, when the switch over happens?

The converter is capable of changing the digital signal to analog so your old TV will continue to be usable. You change channels on the converter box, not the TV. With the converter box, you will still continue to get the over the air free channels including the news channels you stated. Depending on your location, you might have to upgrade your antenna to boost receiving signal.

But, if you want a good viewing experience, HDTV is better. The quality of video is fascinating HDTV even in getting free channels over the air. I have enlisted some links to further help you decide. I hope this will help enlighten you.
