no pic on my camcorder

Hi there

I am a total novice when it comes to camcorders and was hoping someone could help.

I have a Canon MV750i - borrowed. For some reason it has stopped showing any picture on the screen when in camera mode - if you record anything then play it back, it just plays back the sound.

Can anyone help? I've been through the menu and checked against the manual, but have I got it set up wrong...lens cap is off, battery is charged!!!!
