Default Digital8 format

MiniDV, DVD, HDV and HDD are the common formats that I often heard offered by digital camcorders, but I'm not familiar with what this Digital8 format is. Is it a new format?

Hello Claire

No, Digital8 format is not a new format, its actually becoming obsolete. Its the older and cheaper version recording in the same DV format as MiniDv but it uses a larger cassette and machine. Digital8 are compatible with older analogue recorders. Talking about quality, Digital8 provides less compared to DV and is rarely seen in professional contexts although it is still a good standard system with good reproduction quality compared to older systems. If you are to use this format, then I recommend the use of Hi8 tape although they use 8mm tapes.
