Default Camcorders and tripods

Is it necessary to have a tripod if you have a camcorder?

A tripod is actually use to minimize unwanted camera movement and shake thus improving the image quality. If you are to buy one, see to it that the head turns and tilts smoothly but with enough resistance so that the camcorder will not tilt down. Also consider the legs for rigidity and ease of locking. If you are to use the camcorder on weddings, have a monopod, whose single leg trades a small measure of stability for a big increase in portability.
