Here is the solution if you have not found a convertion tool in English as I failed to. You will need winXP and your XP cd. Go to regional/language settings in control panel and enable the install files for East Asian languages under the Languages tab. After you have followed the prompts restart your pc as required and return to the Regional/language settings. Under the Advanced tab select Chinese (PRC) from the drop down box in the section titled Language for non-Unicode programs. Again restart your computer as required by xp. You now will be able to load the AVI Converter software.
Note. The program will not display the legends correctly but you can work your way through it and it WORKS!! p.s. Over the last 14days I Tried Numerous AVI converters and was unable to make any of them work. This was the only way I could find a way of getting AVI files to run on the VX797 unit.
Good luck I hope this will help.
