Default What's the big deal with the Secure Digital format?

Hi guys, I was just wondering...what's the big deal as to whether or not your DSLR digital camera is using the Secure Digital format? I thought about this when I came across the Digital Rebel XSi's product description (Canon's EOS 450D) - they specifically stated that the camera now uses the said format and that it's the first one to use that type of format. Is this something we should look into or is this just some sort of sales pitch?

hi tom, the Secure Digital format is also known as the SD format. i think almost all digital cameras use this now. are you familiar with the memory card? that's another term that one can use. the SD format means that you can store pictures and you have the option to either "lock" the files or not (to keep them from being mistakenly erased/deleted). IMHO, it's not a mere sales pitch. actually, i even think it's something that all digital camera manufacturers should disclose because it's already become an essential aspect for digital cameras
