S210 Macro mode issues

I just bought the S210 to replace my ever faithful S6. I used the S6 mainly for macro mode shooting of jewelery and similar items and found the results great, getting good close up shots with all the detail. I can't seem to achieve anywhere near this with the S210. The manual says from 10cms for the lens to focus - okay I got that, now when I zoom in past the green arrow as pointed out in the manual to get close, the whole thing goes out of focus and I get nothing. I can shoot a focused shot up to the green arrow, but not beyond - thus getting nowhere near close enough. Surely I'm doing something wrong??? Can anyone help please as it's driving me mad - I was expecting the S210 to be better..
