Default Good FIlters

I recently purchased a DSLR. I've been thinking of buying lens in the near future. A friend of mine suggested that I should also include filters. What filters do I need to go with my DSLR. I'm using a Nikon D40x.

There's a basic filter for a Nikon d40x (congratulations on the good choice of DSLR, by the way! ). It's not expensive so don't worry plus you need not buy the branded one. You can just purchase a generic filter (that's cheaper).
