Free photo editor

The photos taken from my digital camera are not good quality pics. When I take indoor pictures, the images seems to be dark with so much noise. Well, famous as it is, the photoshop had been the most widely used photo editor recently but I have a hard time using the software. Plus, it's not that cheap.

Is there a software that will enhance my photos which I can download for free in the internet? I need a user friendly software which is easy to learn and easy to use.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
