Default Cameras with built-in geotagging

Wonder what geotagging is?

Geotagging, in which digital photos are labeled with the location where they were taken, is mostly unfamiliar to photographers today. But new developments are likely going to put the technology on the map.

How would you like a chip designed to let cameras process GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite signals so latitude and longitude data can be attached to digital photos? Uhmmmm, sounds kool eh? It remains to be seen how well this works, but this idea is the holy grail of geotagging--no extra hardware or software is required.

GE's E1050 is scheduled to ship in September with a built-in GPS receiver, though a PC will be required to make use of the location data.

What are your views about geotagging?

Well for me, it will be the new twist in digital photography. It would be nice if I can figure out easily where my photo's are taken.

The good thing about geotagging is that it provides an easy way to figure out where a particular photo was taken which could be useful when trying to identify something like a cathedral long after your memory of your trip to Europe two summers ago has receded into a blur.

The big question is: How accurate the information will be?

I think this new technology wouldn't be easy. What if I am inside a building? What if I'm in the middle of the forest? Would it really give me the exact location of where I took the photo? Sometimes I thought that it doesn't make sense. If the sky is cloudy or if you are in a city with tall buildings, GPS units doesn't even seem to work well. How much more this geotagging thing. And if they were able to solve this issue, the camera for sure would be so powerful and so with the cost. Why would anyone spend that much if he/she can just put the location on the photo as he/she saves it to a file.

Default did you try...

you should try: TrekinU – Home Page

You need original photos and a GPX file from your GPS - you let the site do the dirty work of the Geotagging...and you get:
Yangshoa Guilin- China
