Default Best dslr setting for indoor moving subjects?

Does anybody know what should I adjust with my Nikon 40 dslr when taking moving subjects indoors? I set it on sports setting mode. But, as it comes out, most of my pictures are quite blurry. I have a noise reducing software on my pc , so, I tend to edit my pictures after downloading them. I’d really appreciate comments and suggestions from all of you. It'll cut half my work time if I can do the right settings.

Try turning your flash on or turning up your ISO setting. Turning your ISO setting will make your dslr Nikon amplify its sensors more letting you use higher shutter speeds. The things is, the higher ISO settings, there is increased noise in your pictures. But, Nikon D40 has very good high ISO performance. Sometimes, it depends how people can tolerate image noises. Try this: Take some test shots of your subject using different ISO settings. Later, you can compare the image quality of your pictures in different settings. If you have software that can read EXIF data (shutter speed, lens aperture, ISO, etc.), you’ll be able to see the settings used on your blurry or sharp pictures.

Your dslr’s sensor needs a good amout of light to expose or create the image. An additional external flash would give you better results. It helps bounce the light surrounding your picture. This will give you additional light and makes your picture clearly exposed. Try putting your dslr in shutter priority mode. Set the shutter speed to 1/250 sec and base your results from here if you have to adjust it up or down.

One of the best tips is to create a custom white balance or shoot in raw. Set your ISO at 800 or even 1600 to keep the shutter speed up to about 1/150 or a touch faster if there is a lot of action. External flash is a plus.

In addition, I have here an article that would greatly explain in details on what ideal setting is best for moving subjects. It’s a good reference to keep in mind.

Since I can see that you are using a Nikon D40 camera, I think this site would help you discover the other benefits and features of your high-end camera.

Please check this site out: Nikon Imaging | Global Site | Digitutor

It is a tutorial site specifically about your D40 camera.
