Default CPU lagging with processor or other?

Currently, I have a Pentium 4 640 HT with 32. Ghz. I tried running AVG anti-virus, adware scan, spybot search and Mozilla browser. I think the cpu usage rocketed to 100%. I got lagged. What do you think is a better CPU setup for me? Thank you for any help.

If you get a Core 2 e8400 with 3.0ghz, this will perform much better than your Pentium. Evidently, the programs you are running at the same time are very intensive programs from your hard drive. Your CPU is the fastest part of your PC. It means that your CPU is just waiting for your hard drive and memory to catch up. I strongly recommend a dual core for a better CPU performance. It is a lot more efficient.
