Exclamation Things that are so wrong with todays tests & upcoming test categories

Hi there!

First of all, this is my first of hopefully many threads in this forum. Secondly, I really hope that this homepage will be a homepage I'd basically like to visit every time there is a new technical product on the market.

I really think that you should test new computer hardware, both for the enthusiast (such as my self) and the average user. One thing I really hope will be different with this site compared to the other sites out there is about the test reviews them self. Some times I really like to have a real deep review with lots of detail, but sometimes I'd just like to know the most fundamental thing, e.g. a better summary. And many tests are just not "real-world-tests", each product should be tested and used by someone who know nothing about technical stuff and someone who is very used to dealing with these things.

I saw that you have some upcoming test categories - Game consoles & PC Games. I just have to say that I've been playing video and PC games for about 15 years now (since I were about 5 years old) and still doing it. And almost EVERY review I see @ for example gametrailers.com is made by a little bit older people than me and they are not in my opinion so called "gamers". When I play a game I play it dead serious, pro if you want, and when I see these reviews they say that everything is great and everything. But, when I test the games my self I notice that everything isn't that great. For a average player, maybe, but for me I see so many flaws and I start thinking... What were they thinking?

I can give you one example, Crysis, almost every review out there say "AWESOME", yes yes it looks AWESOME, BUT some of the gameplay, controls and stuff like that is not that great. If you look real closely it's not that great. There is really only two companies out that that almost always makes awesome games that is Blizzard and Valve. So what I am saying is that the PC Games should really be tested by people with a lot of experience in serious gaming. I would really like to be one of those testers!

Hi sweYoda,
I will try to answer all your questions.

About the new upcoming categories, we haven't decided in what exact order we will publish these. But I can promise you that we will publish all the big categories that are related to consumer electronics. Some of the categories will take longer time to get up then others. The one your asking about, Computer hardware, will come within a few month. The problem with that category is that's so big, and there are so many diffrent modells of motherboards, cpu, harddrives, memory manufacturer etc. And often these manufacturer are very bad at giving good product information on there manufacturing sites.

About the tests and review critics.
We are hoping that the users of this site will guide you to the really good reviews and tests. Ie with a lot of users, both professional and average joe's, we will be able to determine what reviews and sources are better then other just by checking what everyone else thinks and reads on the site. There will also be possible to choose what sources you want to see and what sources you don't want to see on the site, if you’re a registered user. This way you can eliminate sources like gametrailers.com and others that you don't like and don’t agree with. In additional to this, we will hopefully find good moderators that can help us with the forum questions, and link these in to the products and this way give you an even better idea of what your looking for. And hopefully give you the answers that your seeking.

Around the entire site, we will build an community-like structure with freaks and users that want to help us and others to make Testfreaks the best site on the net for reviews and guides of/to products. That way we get help of the "Wisdom of the freaks", so you will get the help and answers that you want.

I am not sure, but don't you make your owns tests? I haven't really checked anything about this site, nor have I read any tests I just found this page at some other site.

No, we are only aggregating others tests and reviews in a way that we haven't seen on the internet before. Our idéa is that you should use this site as a research site when your doing your research before buying a new camera, dvd or TV.
