Total noob here, but let me try and help.
If you are ONLY moving from the XTi to the XSi for the Live View, DON'T.
The Live View mode only works with the manual settings on the camera, not the automatic/pre-set ones.
The Live View mode on this model is geared more towards studio work or being hooked up to a computer.
Could you use it like a point and shoot? Sure, but I am not sure why you would want to. There are plenty of nice point and shoot cameras out there, that are A LOT cheaper than the XSi.
If Live View is that important to you, then buy a nice point and shoot.
If not, keep the XTi.
