What i hear and read on the web is that Sony has better lenses and light performing results. Canon claims to have 0.4 lux; Sony 1 lux. Is it the lux or the lens?
The canon has more CCD-pixels, a slightly bigger chip and a native 16:9 widescreen, which is better for using to show on widescreen tv's and cinema.
--- Lux is a measure of light intensity. A camera lux rating refers to the minimum amount of light that will produce pictures. The lower the number the more sensitive the camera. So it depends on what you're going to use your camera for. If you want better lighting, then get one that has the lower lux.
