Summary: After almost endless research on sonar, this model fit the bill! Almost went with the 550 but the 300 exceeded my expectations alone. Easy to install, and marks fish very clearly! The depth finder in VERY accurate and the scroll is fast! Plenty of easy to use settings and menus to tinker around with will you're waiting for that big hit! I fish saltwater, day and night usually in 40-100 foot depth.
Summary: It does its job. The screen colors is very good. I keep it on on factory auto settings and it seems to work fine. I have since upgraded to the Lowrance Elite 4 with GPS and color screen. Now this is a great unit for GPS and clarity reading the bottom graphs and drop off's, plus it goes to a 1000 feet depth.
Summary: I have a small aluminum boat, and the Garmin just fit the bill for me.It works just great, swivels easily enough and is very easy to read. I would say it is a better deal than a lot of the larger ones that I have seen on some friends boats.
Summary: This fish finder was easy to install. I did an in dash installation, and it was scary to cut into a 3 month old boat. It appears to be very accurate with the depth readings even when traveling at 20 to 30 knots. You must be right in front of it to see the depth, if you are off to the side even a little, you can not see the numbers. I fish, however I only use it to find out how deep I am. It does show any any structures on the bottom.
