Summary: I bought this to replace an old Canon L90, but after 4 months I am back to using the L90 to send faxes. Works Ok as a printer and for incoming faxes, but paper output tray is small and cannot handle a heavy load. Not a very intelligent machine, if you send an envelope to print before you put one in the manual tray, the machine locks up with an annoying error message; the only solution is to unplug the machine and start over.
Summary: I have had this machine for 6 years and it is still cranking out and sending faxes well. You can find it now for about $129. Canon just released the Faxphone L190 which usually means remaining inventory of the L170 will be eliminated since the new model is only slightly higher in price than the list price on this model now.
Summary: I broke the last one I had which was over 6 years old. I liked it so much I bought another. Of course I had 1 3/4 ink cartridges left that I didn't want to waste. They last a long time in this machine too!
Summary: I purchased the canon fax machine because of the brand name, it is known for its good quality. It was fairly easy to set up. I found it to be bigger than what I wanted, but it the bigger one was the more efficient one of the two I had to choose from.
Summary: Every fax machine we've ever owned had the same problem; they wouldn't feed outgoing faxes or they would stick together and all go through at once. One day I asked a fellow businessperson about this and she recommended this particular unit so we tried it. As far as feeding copies or faxes we've found it to be terrific. We don't really use it as a printer, but sometimes as a copier. It works fine.
Summary: Comments about Canon FAXPHONE L170 Multifunction Printer: We bought the machine for fax only. We use it as a stand alone product. It was so perfect for what we needed we purchased a second to replace a working fax because of the speed, clarity, and overall performance of the machine. Canon has many service centers in the US and if necessary to have it serviced it can be done in our area. Huge factor in our decision to purchase this product.
Pros: Easy Setup, Easy To Use, Fast Operation, Great Print Quality, Reliable
Summary: Received the faxphone ahead of schedule and in good condition. Followed the easy instructions and was faxing in matter of minutes. It's quick, quiet, clarity is good. Would recommend this item to any small to medium office.
Summary: The paper curls as it comes out and instead of having a neat stack of faxes ready to sort and file, the staff needs to clear the fax output tray regularly to avoid a messy pile of inter-leaved and curled-up unrelated papers and then we have to sort these. Especially after a weekend, this is annoying. If this is a paper or ink problem, perhaps someone from Canon could let me know. The present paper is Blizzard BLZ-41200.
Summary: The Canon L170 is by far the most dependable fax machine for a mid-volume office. I have used this unit for at least four years without a problem, and when I set up a home office recently, it was the first unit I purchased. It faxes and prints quickly and effortlessly, and with the inexpensive all in one cartridge, it is also the most economical fax out there. Most people don't realize that Canon makes most of the engines for HP.
