Easy, works fine

Summary: I followed the directions. No problems, reset tivo, worked like a charm. One thing I did was go ahead and buy an eSATA cable since some reviews said it was a problem, although I don't plan on using the one in the box. I figured a $3 cable was worth it on top of the cost. As far as reliability and time to failure I guess we'll see.
Summary: this product works great with my scientific atlanta dvr box. i also have the 5oo gb box in my living room and had no problems. when i first try to set this up it didnt link right away so when both units were powered on i pulled out the esata plug then plugged it back in it synced right away.
Plug and Play Convenience, Some Limitations, Uses only 7 Watts of Electricity

Summary: This is an excellent, low cost expansion option for your TiVo DVR. The real beauty of this product is that is it truly plug and play. Plug in the electrical cord, attach it to your TiVo via an eSATA cable and within a few minutes of TiVO Premiere mechanizations, it will be up and running. Yet, like the TiVo itself, it somewhat "closed", lacking basic options common to computer peripherals.
Summary: This is this only officially supported device to extend disk space for Tivo. We are on our second unit for our Tivo HD. The first unit lasted about 1 and a half years then failed. Wisg it would have lasted longer but it is running constantly for the entire time without down time. We did get some warning with shows starting to get cut off and freezing. When the drive went we lost most of our shows we had recorded.

Summary: I have had this expander up and running for 2 days. So far, so good. The only thing I can't really comment on yet is its reliability. I'll try to remember to post again after I've had it running a month or so. I gave a low star rating for ease of installation only because of the provided installation instructions.
Summary: With so many new programs coming out in HD, the DirecTV DVR in our living room fills up pretty quickly. Our children like to record their favorite programs, my wife likes to record her cooking shows, and I like to record movies, so our DVR fills up pretty fast. It seems we are constantly erasing unwatched programs to make room for more. Then I heard about the WD DVR Expander and it sounded too good to be true.
Summary: Easy to set up with my DirectTV DVR. Be aware though, this drive then becomes the only drive available, so be prepared to lose access to anything saved on the DVR drive before you hooked it up ! Afterwards you have storage galore and it's totally transparent and silent operation with your system.
Summary: Have used this for about a month with my new Tivo Premiere. Follow the directions and it is a very easy install, maybe 10 minutes. Nice to have the expanded capacity and less expensive than buying the pricer Tivo. No more arguments about which shows get deleted first to make more space! We record both HD and SD shows and playback is great. The unit is very quiet, it sits on a shelf in our living room next to the Tivo and you can't hear it at all.
Summary: Just a heads up that yes, the drive is great, but the cable is still terrible even after all these months of people alerting WD to that fact. So, DO buy the drive, BUT DO BUY ANOTHER CABLE. After initial install my drive was fine for about a day, then started having playback stutters and 30 second delays between menu pages. Replaced the eSATA cable and everything was great. Thank you to the previous posters who saved me a ton of troubleshooting and frustration.
Summary: This is a fantastic product! I bought this to expand my TiVo HD and it has worked flawlessly. Setup was very easy! Quiet operation. Good value for the price. Definitely recommend this product!
