Excerpt: I previously used the 2TB My Book Studio for Mac by WD for the back-up hard drive. It unexpectedly died after the 2-1/2 years use and lost the data. I reluctantly purchased this hard drive for the replacement in hoping that it lasts much longer than the previously. I could be wrong.
Summary: The unit works but but it failed when I first got it. I'm using a new mac computer. The problem was traced to the software that comes with this external hard drive. It would cause the drive to shutdown about 4" after it was turned-on. A Google search revealed this happening to lots of people.
Excerpt: After a lot of research I bought the Mac version. I was a little worried that it would be a complicated set up or that there would be some incompatibilities as my Imac is 2010 version. It literally was a simple plug in and upload the software.
Summary: I have only had this 6TB model for a few hours but have put it through its paces just to check it out. Straight out of the box, I copied 3TB of movies to it from another drive with speeds of 100 to 165MB/S. That is as good as I get from any of my other USB 3.0 drives.
