Western Digital My Book VelociRaptor Duo 2TB
25 January 2013
Conclusion: Building on premium external storage solutions such as the Thunderbolt Duo, Western Digital's release of the also-Thunderbolt-connected My Book VelociRaptor Duo 2TB ups the speed ante via the use of two 10K RPM drives housed inside a well-built enclosure. Able to transfer 100GB in comfortably under 10 minutes and practically as quick as having a SATA 6Gbps connection direct to the PC, the VR Duo is a premium choice for users who need capacity and speed.
Conclusion: The VelociRaptor Duo takes the some of the fright out of ultra-fast RAID storage. Video production folks will find the price worthwhile, but everybody else is better off looking at less-expensive USB alternatives.
Pros: It’s super-fast! Includes Thunderbolt cable.
Conclusion: If you have the need for speed, the Western Digital My Book VelociRaptor Duo is the drive you want sitting next to your MacBook, PC, or iMac with Thunderbolt.
Pros: Speedy as a SSD on read operations. Larger capacity than a SSD. Can be configured for RAID 0 or RAID 1. Faster than SSD on write operations. User serviceable. Can be daisy chained using dual Thunderbolt ports. Comes with Thunderbolt cable.
Cons: Only Thunderbolt interface. No visual capacity indicator.
Conclusion: The VelociRaptor 1TB (10,000 RPM) drives ensconced in the Western Digital My Book VelociRaptor Duo delivered performance that was comparable to (but not exactly equal to) the same type of drive set up as an internal drive. There were a couple of notable performance differences, however.
Pros: Impressive RAID 0 performance, Solid single drive performance, Ease of use, Three-year warranty
Cons: No RAID in Windows Yet, Pricey, Heat dissipation seems inadequate
TEST: Western Digital Velociraptor Duo: Rask Thunderbolt-disk
5 December 2012
Pros: Lav aksesstid og jevnt over svært god ytelse.
Cons: Høy pris. Ikke USB 3.0 i tillegg. Litt krevende installasjon under Windows.
