Some set up tips
28 October 2012
Summary: The Passport Edge: so small, it can fit in a pocket. No external power supply is necessary, it is powered through the USB port, so only one cable is needed. The cable supplied is very short but serves its purpose. SETUP After plugging the Edge in and installing the software located on the hard drive, I was up and running . . . until it fell asleep. It sleeps after 30 minutes, which seems to be the default mode.
Summary: I used to be a big fan of Seagate, but after several bad experiences with them I've leaned more towards Western Digital when possible. It seems that people tend to like or dislike various hard drive maker based on whether they got a bad drive or not more than any actual stats about hard drive lifespans/reliability.
3X Faster than USB 2.0 As It Claims, Decent Backup Software
27 September 2012
Summary: I have several WD portable drives, but this one is the thinnest by far, easily half the thickness of an older 640GB WD Elements drive I use. The specs say this drive is 3 times faster that USB 2 and they are correct. I ran a side-by-side test against my LaCie d2 Quadra hooked up as USB 2.0 on my work PC (For test data, I'm using an i5-2310 w/16GB ram, 128GB SSD & Caviar Black as an internal storage drive).
Summary: I had the chance to review this hard drive and I've tried out a few other WD drives. This one lives up to my expectations. You plug it in and it just works. You don't have to configure anything, just plug it and it starts to backup your software if you use the built in backup software or you can manually copy files over without using the backup software.
Summary: This drive is good and useful. However, my first impression upon handling the drive was that it felt cheap. It is light and plastic and uninspiring. Most importantly it does work and work well. In my testing this drive writes at around 12.38mb/s and it reads at about 17.73mb/s. Meaning: it moves files and it does so quickly. Installation was non-existent. I plugged it in and it worked. Nice and easy.
I like. 4.5 stars rounded down to 4 as no cable storage & bad packaging.

Summary: VERY nice external drive, this. It feels really nice in the hand. But only once you've removed it from the impossible packaging. And I like the design on the top.. it reminds me a bit of the old punch-cards I used to use for computer programming (I am that old!). It looks like a graphic depiction of a digital data stream. USB3 seems to be a bit slow to catch on; the majority of new computers and laptops still don't offer it.
für den PC absolut okay, für timeshift und Aufnahmen am Fernseher (Smart TV) nicht geeignet.

Summary: Der Einsatz dieser Festplatte am PC zur Datensicherung und Datenspeicherung funktioniert ohne Probleme.
Summary: 500 GB für die Jackentasche!
